Once in a Promised Land by Laila Halaby. This PowerPoint was presented by Hana Sui. This book is meant to cover not only the effect and struggles of the Arab-American community after September 11th but also combine the struggles of their personal lives. This ends up further damaging their connection towards Arab culture. By now now this class has read numerous books that at least remotely discuss struggles, stemming from either of these two factors. The one I read for my project was Diana Abu-Jaber’s Life Without a Recipe her second non-fiction memoir covers struggle of identity for personal reasons rather than discriminatory ones.Crescent also had that same principle though it was more focused on personal stories as well as the second one being told by Han. We have also read some Blackboard documents going into a little more detail with post 9/11 scenarios. It was interesting to see how the two overlap and react simultaneously.
